Getting started

From a freshly unpacked controller to a first humidification run.

This page takes you from a freshly unpacked controller to a first humidification run.

Before you start

You need:

  • the controller board and the screen;
  • mains power for the board;
  • an Ethernet cable and a network that can reach the controller;
  • the demand signal source (a 0–10 V or 4–20 mA transmitter, an on/off contact, or a fieldbus master that will write the demand register).

The controller has no on/off switch. It starts as soon as mains power is applied.

Note

Each part is marked with its reference designator on the board, for example J12 or K1. What the part is for is only in this documentation. See Hardware reference.

1. Mount the board and connect the screen

  1. Fix the board in a dry enclosure, away from condensation.
  2. Connect the screen to the controller with the screen cable. The screen plugs into the J5 connector (8P8C), which carries both the 5 V supply and the RS-485 link.
  3. Plug the other end of the screen cable into the screen itself.

The screen powers up and starts talking to the controller over that cable. If it cannot reach the controller it shows a "Check device connection" message over the home screen.

2. Apply mains power

  1. Connect mains to the J2 terminal (Mains):
    • pin 1–2: neutral
    • pin 3–4: line
    • pin 5–6: earth
  2. Tighten the terminal screws and check the wiring.
  3. Switch the power on.

Warning

J2 carries mains. The board converts mains to its own 24 V supply internally, so you do not feed 24 V into any other terminal. See Installation and wiring for the full wiring table.

What you should see:

  • the yellow 5V LED lights up;
  • the screen shows the home screen. The mode line reads "Mode: --" until the screen reaches the controller, then "Mode: Standby";
  • the Status LED is dark and the Alarm LED is dark.

3. Find the controller on the network

Out of the box the controller uses a static address:

SettingDefault
DHCPoff
Static IP192.168.1.195
Subnet24
Gateway192.168.1.1
  1. Put your laptop on the same subnet as 192.168.1.0/24, or route to it.
  2. Open a browser and go to http://192.168.1.195.

You should see the AdiaPure page with the header, a Dashboard tab and a Configuration tab. The footer shows the serial number, the model and the firmware version.

Note

On units where the serial number and the model have not been written yet, the footer and the screen show them as a row of zeros. See Needs confirmation.

If the page does not open, see Connectivity.

4. Set the date and time

The controller keeps time on its own battery-backed clock, and the clock starts from the build date until you set it.

  1. On the Dashboard, find the System card.
  2. In Set clock (UTC), pick the date and time.
  3. Press Set UTC.

The time appears immediately in System time and in the alarm history.

5. Choose how the demand arrives

The controller can take its demand from several sources. Tell it which one you are using before you go any further.

  1. Open the Configuration tab.
  2. In the Inputs card, set Demand input mode to one of:
    • 0-10V demand
    • 4-20mA demand
    • On/Off
    • External demand register
    • Return humidity voltage
    • Return humidity current
  3. Press Save.

The screen shows the same choice under SETTINGS → System Inputs → DEMAND INPUT, with the same six options.

6. Wire the signals you actually need

At minimum, for the unit to run in AUTOMATIC mode, these three inputs must be active:

Terminal (schematic name)What it isActive when
J12 (MEn)Master enable24 V present
J16 (HL_ONOFF)Hygrostat24 V present
J14 (Airflow)Airflow24 V present

Warning

These inputs are read as active when 24 V is present. A dry contact to 0 V does not activate them. See Hardware reference for the details, and remove the commissioning links before you hand the unit over.

7. Switch to AUTOMATIC and watch it run

  1. On the Dashboard, in the Operation Mode panel, press AUTOMATIC.
  2. Apply a demand:
    • if you use an analogue input, drive it with a signal above 0 %;
    • if you use External demand register, write a value to the demand register over Modbus or BACnet;
    • if you use On/Off, close the contact.
  3. Watch the Demand tile. It shows the demand in per cent.
  4. Watch Process & Hydraulics. The Pump row shows Running, and Pressure low and Pressure high show a bar value.
  5. Watch the Valves card. Valve 1 … Valve 4 show Open while the unit is atomising.

The first success is: the mode reads AUTOMATIC, the pump runs, and at least one valve opens.

8. What the screen shows

The screen home screen is divided into four panels:

PanelWhat it shows
TopThe operating mode, and the demand and output bars
MiddleThe sensor readings: Inlet Pres., Pump Pres., Conductivity
LowerSYSTEM INFO: the pump, K1–K4, Alarm and Status indicators
Bottom rightButtons for settings, system information and alarms

A banner appears between the mode panel and the rest of the screen when the unit cannot humidify. Its text tells you why:

BannerMeaning
Output reduced due to Highlimit transmitterThe limiter is cutting the output
Waiting: AirflowNo airflow signal
Waiting: HygrostatNo hygrostat signal
Waiting: MasterMaster enable is not active
Waiting: Alarm <name>An alarm is blocking the run
Test function in progressThe unit is in test mode
